Found yourself spending more time at home with the kids? We recognize how quickly the go-to home-based activities could get old. Since keeping things fresh is our forte here at Affy Tapple, we put our creative minds together to come up with some delicious distractions. Here are our 10 best (food based) ideas for how to keep your kids entertained for hours, possibly days:
1. Create Caramel Apple characters
Take
Peanut or
Plain Caramel Apples and grab whatever candies or baking goodies you have laying around to stick on googly eyes and fashion sweet hair-dos!
The Peanut Caramel Apples require a little "glue" like gel icing, if you have it. Most decorations can be pressed right into the Plain Caramel Apples.
2. Design your own Caramel Apple
Get extra inventive by gluing on beads, pom poms, pipe cleaners - whatever you have on hand! When finished, showcase your art on social media with #myaffy
3. Build a pretzel rod log cabin
Protasio, Victor. “Pretzel Log Cabin Recipe_Real Simple.” Real Simple, December 2016, www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/pretzel-log-cabin
4. Make Caramel Apple sundaes
A favorite among our families!
Simply cut a
Caramel Apple in half, remove the stick and slightly hollow out each apple half (you can use these apple bits as a topping, as well), add a scoop of your favorite ice cream, drizzle on some chocolate syrup, top with a dollop of whipped cream (spray or homemade - we love both), and enjoy!
5. Melt down caramels into an apple dip
A great way to teach kids the science of turning a solid to a liquid,
soft caramels can be melted in a saucepan over low heat into a creamy, spreadable dip to serve with sliced apples, bananas or any fruit you have available.
Because...science!
6. Create your own edible Jenga game out of shortbread cookies
Pro tip: you may only want to use the game pieces once!
Pick up some classic shortbread cookies or check out how to make your own shortbread Jenga with
this video from
Dicebreaker.
7. Make an Affy Tapple salad
Chop up 6
Peanut Caramel Apples, discarding the core and any seeds. Mix 1 (5.1-ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix with 1/2 cup milk, then fold in 1 (12-ounce) container of whipped topping as well as the Caramel Apples, for a fresh take on dessert.
8. Build an indoor campsite
9. Get fancy with Caramel Apple croissants
Roll
Caramel Apple slices into your crescent rolls. Is it breakfast? Is it dessert? Whatever you decide, it’s an easy and fun way to teach your kids to bake!
10. Create caramel Dominoes
Press chocolate chips into
soft caramels to create your own edible Dominoes! Set ‘em up and knock ‘em down!
Hopefully this gave you some inspiration for how to keep your kids busy while at home! And at the end of the day,
shake up one of these for yourself - you earned it! (Ingredients can be adjusted based on what you have on hand.)
